Built.Works reveals prefabricated holiday home designs

Musician’s cabin model – designed by Built Works

Each cabin will be fabricated off site and delivered in a kit of parts, which can be carried on foot to the assembly point and put together, by hand, in a day.

The ‘compact’ one-to-two person cabins will join two existing holiday lets on the sloping woodland site. None will be visible to any of the others.

Built.Works says the demountable cabins will help the farm owners ‘diversify their income’ and ‘secure the farm shop and plant nursery’s ongoing viability and presence in the local economy’.

The scheme in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty has been developed in collaboration with Architects Holiday – an online platform specialising in architect-designed holiday homes. The company was set up in 2020 by the London and Lake District-based architect as an independent offshoot.

Emerging practice Built.Works has won planning approval for five themed prefabricated holiday cabins on the edge of a rural, family-run farm at Catsfield, East Sussex.

The architect says the designs have been inspired by local buildings, such as the ‘pill-shaped forms of medieval farmsteads’ and the ‘low rectangular forms of Sussex barns and granaries’.

The five cabins will be built in phases with the first set to open to bookings early next year.
