The phased project will deliver three additional special needs teaching spaces including ancillary and support rooms along with associated site works. Key aims include meeting growing demands for teaching space and improving staff and pupil morale.
‘Works will involve the demolition of an existing modular classroom to release space for the creation and development of the extension and external play areas.
According to the brief: ‘The project is for the provision of two, single-storey extensions in a system build construction approach to the existing school to provide three new classrooms with support and ancillary spaces.
‘Phased construction works will be required together with enabling works that involve the relocation of an electrical substation to another part of the site before commencement of the new extension.’
The team selected for the estimated £165,000 contract will draw up plans from RIBA stage 2-to-6 to extend the special needs school which is located on Coalisland Road on the northern fringes of the settlement.
Bids to deliver the contract will be evaluated 50 per cent on quality, 10 per cent social value and 40 per cent on cost. Applicants must hold employer’s liability insurance of £10 million, public liability insurance of £10 million and professional indemnity insurance of £1 million.
