University of Cambridge names teams for £80m framework

The selected teams include 5th Studio, Burwell Architects, Purcell, RH Partnership, BDP, HawkinsBrown, MCW Architects, Stride Treglown, Jestico + Whiles, Perkins & Will, NBBJ and HLM Architects.

The architects will have the opportunity to work on a range of projects for the university, which has net assets valued at around £4.9 billion and is part-way through the creation of its £1 billion North West Cambridge Eddington urban extension.

The four-year framework is divided into six lots covering cost management, project management, architectural, civil and structural engineering, services engineering and building surveying services.

The University of Cambridge is the third oldest surviving university in the world and has an annual budget of around £2.3 billion.

The latest framework is expected to cover a range of minor new build construction works, civil and structural engineering works, electrical and mechanical works, fit out and refurbishments, highways works, external works and heritage works.

Over the past decade, it has been leading on the creation of thousands of new homes and amenities at Eddington – designed by architects including Stanton Williams, Maccreanor Lavington, Alison Brooks and Witherford Watson Mann.

The announcement of the winners comes seven months after developers U+I and TOWN named the masterplanning design team for a new 5,000-home mixed-use development in north-east Cambridge.
