The multidisciplinary team chosen for the estimated £250,000 contract will draw up plans to extend the language and communication centre at the school in Tupsley, Hereford which provides autism-specialist education.

‘It is anticipated that the multi-disciplinary team will undertake all tasks included within RIBA Stages 2-6. The successful tenderer will also be expected to assist the council in preparing relevant tender documents and evaluations for a contractor to deliver the works.’

Bids to deliver the latest contract will be evaluated 58 per cent on quality, 12 per cent on social value and 30 per cent on price.

Applicants must hold employer’s liability insurance of £5 million, public liability insurance of £5 million and professional indemnity insurance of £2 million.

The search for a design team comes almost a year after Herefordshire Council announced a search for a design team to rethink the future of its Grade II*-listed town hall.

According to the brief: ‘The tender is looking procure a design team to take forward and develop upon the feasibility work already undertaken that identifies how Hampton Dene’s language and communication centre can be expanded to accommodate an additional 16 pupils.

Hampton Dene Primary School is a small primary school with a specialist language and communication centre which currently hosts 29 students with a range of special educational needs including autism.

The project, planned to complete in 2025, will deliver a flexible learning environment for 16 additional students featuring two additional classrooms, a support facility, toilets and outdoor space. A feasibility study for the project was completed by Nottingham-based Urban Fabric in January 2023.
